NAVAL SPECIAL WARFARE DEVELOPMENT GROUP BRONZE SQUADRON STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE

1. PURPOSE#

This SOP establishes the eligibility requirements, expectations, and conduct standards for all personnel serving in an instructional capacity under the Bronze Squadron J7 Training Shop. It applies to Green Team cadre and to instructors of all unit qualification courses. The intent is to ensure every training evolution in Bronze Squadron is delivered to a consistent, professional standard by qualified, prepared, and engaged instructors.

The J7 Training Shop is the proponent for all unit training doctrine, qualification pipelines, and instructor standards. All instructional billets, regardless of troop or element, fall under J7 oversight for matters of training delivery and standardization.

2. SCOPE & APPLICABILITY#

This SOP applies to the following personnel and functions:

• Green Team cadre conducting the Days 1–3 entry pipeline
• Instructors of all active NSWDG qualification courses
• Any member delegated to deliver troop-level sustainment or remedial training on behalf of J7

3. INSTRUCTOR ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS#

Instructional duty is a privilege, not an entitlement. Before a member may serve as an instructor in any J7-sanctioned capacity, they must meet all of the following minimum requirements:

CRITICAL STANDARD — INSTRUCTIONAL MINDSET#

Rank and time in-unit qualify a member for consideration — they do not qualify a member to teach. An instructor must want to build others. Instructors are expected to be approachable, proactive, and generous with their time: assisting Green Team candidates through the pipeline, and standing ready to assist any member of their troop who needs coaching, remediation, or a refresher. A member who meets every objective requirement but lacks this mindset will not be assigned instructional duty.

4. GREEN TEAM INSTRUCTOR EXPECTATIONS#

Green Team instructors carry the unit's first impression and set the standard every candidate will carry into their troop. All Green Team instruction is governed by the Green Team Days 1–3 SOP and the associated Instructor Training Bibles; this section supplements, and does not replace, those documents.

STANDARDS OF INSTRUCTION#

Know the material

Instructors will be fully versed in the Green Team Days 1–3 SOP, the day-specific Instructor Training Bibles, and the cadre scorecards before instructing any block.

Teach crawl-walk-run

Every block is delivered in the crawl-walk-run progression. Instructors will not skip phases or compress instruction to save time.

Score objectively

Cadre scorecards will be completed for every candidate, every day, using the published grading criteria. Personal familiarity with a candidate is never a factor in scoring.

Deliver feedback

Candidates receive constructive, specific feedback at the conclusion of each training day via the standard feedback forms. (NOTE: Form awaiting creation by J1)

Be available beyond the schedule

Instructors are expected to make themselves available to Green Team members outside scheduled blocks for questions, remedial work, and mentorship.

Protect the standard

No candidate advances without meeting the published qualification criteria. Instructors who identify a struggling candidate will coordinate remediation through the J7 Training Chief rather than lowering the bar.

5. QUALIFICATION COURSE INSTRUCTOR EXPECTATIONS#

Qualification course instructors deliver the advanced pipelines that define Bronze Squadron's operational capability. Each course is governed by its own SOP; instructors are the guardians of those standards. The following expectations apply across all qualification courses:

5. COURSE DELIVERY STANDARDS#

Breacher Course#

Delivered IAW the Breacher Course SOP: CDD demolitions doctrine, five breach methods, target-to-charge matrix, and the crawl-walk-run qualification course.

Dive School#

Delivered IAW the Dive School documentation suite and SWAG Infiltration 2.0 mechanics.

HAHO / HALO#

Delivered IAW the HAHO/HALO Infiltration SOP, including jump procedures and infiltration planning standards.

SERE Course#

Delivered IAW the SERE Course SOP.

Green Team#

Delivered IAW the Green Team Days 1–3 SOP and Instructor Training Bibles (see Section 7).

6. STANDARDS OF INSTRUCTION#

• Master the governing SOP — Instructors will maintain complete working knowledge of their course SOP and all referenced doctrine, and will teach from the published material — not from memory or personal preference.
• Enforce qualification standards — Course qualification criteria are pass/fail as written. Instructors do not waive, modify, or informally credit qualification standards; any proposed change is routed to the J7 Training Chief.
• Maintain documentation — Course rosters, qualification results, and scorecards are completed for every iteration and forwarded to the appropriate J7 forum threads for the training record.
• Stay broadly proficient — Course instructors remain well versed across the unit's wider training topics so instruction connects to how the skill is employed in troop operations.
• Support the troops — Instructors remain a resource after graduation — available to their troop and to graduates for sustainment, refresher training, and pre-operation preparation.

7. GENERAL CONDUCT & STANDARDS#

Professionalism#

Instructors represent the J7 Training Shop and Bronze Squadron leadership in every interaction. Professionalism is non-negotiable, in voice and in text.

Patience and Respect#

Instruction is delivered with patience and respect. Berating, humiliating, or dismissing a trainee is grounds for immediate removal from instructional duty.

Prepared#

Instructors arrive prepared: lesson material reviewed, server/mod requirements confirmed, and training areas set prior to start time.

Punctuality#

Instructors are punctual and communicate absences to the J7 Training Chief with maximum possible notice so coverage can be arranged.

Model the Standard#

Instructors model the standard — uniform, equipment, comms discipline, and conduct IAW the Uniforms, Weapons & Equipment SOP and the Main Bronze Squadron SOP at all times while instructing.

8. ROLES WITHIN THE SHOP#

Shop OIC#

The OIC, Officer in Charge, runs the shop from top to bottom. They are responsible for all goings on in the shop and are accountable for all shop actions. They are required to maintain training schedules, verify qualification paper work, and continue to grow opportunities within the unit for training.

Green Team Cadre#

Green Team Cadre must be available for all Green Team members as a wealth of knowledge and be prepared to assist them with operational or unit questions. Green Team instructors, as said above, are the first glimpse of Bronze Squadron and this means they are required to be the pinnacle of discipline, immersion, and all other unit standards.

Qualification Instructors#

Qualification Instructors are responsible for scheduling and maintaining a training plan for all qualifications within the unit. They need to be well versed in all active unit qualification courses and be ready to be a resource for all unit members. Qualification instructors, like Green Team Cadre, need to uphold and be an example of all unit standards within the training space and outside of it.

Green Team Cadre Assistants#

Green Team Cadre Assistants are responsible for assisting active Green Team Cadre during days 1-3 and whenever else available. This billet within the shop is more of a floater. They can assist any of the Cadre during classes and can also run Green Team members through their own extra training outside of the selection process. The training they conduct continues to focus on the basics and continues to follow the Green Team instructional bible SOP's.

9. TRAINING CALENDAR#

The J7 Training Shop maintains the Bronze Squadron training calendar. All scheduled instruction adheres to the following battle rhythm:

Green Team — Days 1 & 2 (Weekly)#

Green Team Day 1 and Day 2 classes are conducted on a weekly basis. Instructors assigned to these blocks will confirm availability with the J7 Training Chief no later than the beginning of each week and will be prepared to instruct IAW the Green Team Days 1–2 SOP.

Green Team — Day 3 (Monthly)#

Green Team Day 3 is conducted once per month, held at the end of the month. Day 3 serves as the culminating evolution for all candidates who have completed Days 1 and 2 during that monthly cycle. Instructors will coordinate with the J7 Training Chief to confirm the Day 3 date, candidate roster, and cadre assignments no later than one week prior.

Qualification Courses (As Scheduled)#

Qualification courses (Breacher, Dive School, HAHO/HALO, SERE) may be held at any time throughout the month based on instructor availability, candidate demand, and operational tempo. Course instructors will submit proposed dates to the J7 Training Chief for placement on the training calendar prior to announcement. Qualification courses will be scheduled to avoid conflict with Green Team Days 1–3 evolutions, which take priority.

All calendar changes, cancellations, or reschedules are routed through the J7 Training Chief. Instructors will not independently announce or move scheduled training.
